Our Work 2

The vision of Kehilat Poriya (“Fruitful Congregation”) is, with God’s help:

  1. To proclaim, in Poriya Illit and the surrounding areas, the Good News of Messiah Yeshua’s atoning death, resurrection, ascension and soon return
  2. To make God the Father, Yeshua His Son, the Holy Spirit and the written Word of God the center of everything we do.
  3. To build a home-based congregation in Poriya Illit which will teach the Word of God; offer the Lord’s salvation; help people to love God with all their heart, soul and strength and to love their neighbors as themselves.
Kehilat Poriya will be modeled after the congregations in the New Testament and will, with God’s help, exhibit the following characteristics:

  1. Be local and home-based (grow by helping start other home congregations). Acts 2:46; 5:42; 8:3; 16:40; 20:20; Rom 16:3-5, 23; I Cor 16:19; Phm 1:2, Col 4:15
  2. Be governed by a plurality of elders. Acts 14:23; 15:13, 35; 20:1, 17, 28; 21:18: Phil 1:1; I Tim 4:14; 5:17; Tit1:5-9
  3. Be accountable as part of the Ohalei Rachamim (Tents of Mercy) family of congregations.Matthew 8:5-11; I Cor 16:16; Eph 4:11-16; 5:21; Phil 2:3
  4. Operate in Hebrew (with translation into English). I Cor 9:20, 22
  5. Encourage interaction and participation in the meetings. I Cor 14:26; Eph 5:18-20; Col 3:16
  6. Foster a sense of community in the participants. Acts 2:46-47
  7. Express our Biblical Jewish heritage (e.g. study Torah portion, recite “Shema,” celebrate Biblical/Jewish holidays, Aharonic blessing, etc). I Cor 9:20, 22; Luke 4:16-17, Acts 9:20
  8. Encourage the gifts of the Spirit without making them the center of attention. I Cor 12:4-11, 28-31; 13:1-3
  9. Emphasize discipleship. Mat 28:19-20a, II Tim 2:2
  10. Practice as a regular part of our community:
  • The Lord’s supper
  • Water baptism by immersion
